What is a Challenge Project?

Every student has strengths and weaknesses. GHS strives to provide differentiated instruction that both supports and challenges all students. Taking the idea of a "Genius Hour" I have developed what I call a Challenge Project. I realize that what might be challenging for one student may not be challenging for another. Therefore, I expect that all students will choose a project/activity that will challenge themselves.

What will students be doing?

For several Friday classes, students will have an opportunity to work on their projects. This might involve technology or it might be a hands-on lab/project. This IS NOT EXTRA-CREDIT and will count as a project grade. All students are challenged (pun intended) to earn points on their project. Students are required to keep this challenge log, record work they have done, and the points they have earned. We will have Friday class time for research and challenge work. The Challenge Project allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity and inquiry.  The project is self-selected, as long as it taps into one of the following categories:

Help make the community a better place

What are you not okay with?

What do you have?

What can we do about it?

Open Ended Questions

The answer cannot be found with a quick Google search.

Create/Innovate

Make something, start from scratch. Come up with and experiment. What can you add to the world that wasn't there before?

Learn/Master

Spend your Challenge Project time practicing and mastering a skill or personal passion.

What are the expectations?

*You will spend a series of Friday class times working on a Challenge Project.

*You must work on your own because this is about what you're curious about and what is challenging for you.

*Choose a project that is new to you AND something you would not normally do in another academic class.

*You must produce a product, invention, or achieve some sort of goal. You may create, build, invent, write, discover, or design.

*Keep a log of your work and resources used each week. The log and a variety of other resources will be posted in Google Classroom.

*You will present your project and reflect on the process in a 3-5 minute TED-style talk.

*Meet with Ms. Bennett if you are feeling lost, overwhelmed, or uninspired. I am a facilitator in this project and will help, but not solve problems for you.

*EXPLORE YOUR PASSIONS AND LEARN!
