There will be marches this Saturday, 4/22/17, across the nation and the globe to support science. (It's also Earth Day!!)

I'll be going to the march in Amherst.

Why should we march?

Why is science important?

What is science?

Science helps us understand the world around us. Science is driven by data and informs us. Science does not make decisions, but citizens and our political representatives should make informed decisions based on scientific research and empirical evidence.

I've seen so many posts and amazing posters on the March for Science Facebook page over the last month or two. Scientists and citizens sharing why they feel it's important to support and fund scientific research.

Here are some of the reasons why I want to march:

We need clean, drinkable water

We need clean, breathable air

We need healthy food

We need renewable energy sources

We need to protect our environment and the species living in it

We need medicine and vaccines to prevent diseases

Science saved me and my premature baby in 2008
