Are you ready? Will the skies be clear? Tomorrow morning we'll be able to see the Super Blue Blood Moon of 2018! Sounds ominous, but let's break it down.

Super Moon = The moon is at it closest point to Earth in it's orbit. This makes the moon appear slightly larger and brighter than normal.

Blue Moon = The second full moon in the same month. (not the color we see)

Blood Moon = This name comes from the color the moon turns during an eclipse. This is because our atmosphere absorbs some colors, but lets other wavelengths of light to pass through- the same reason we have colorful sunsets.

The eclipse begins early in the morning, and unfortunately the moon will set before we'll be able to see the full eclipse here in Greenfield. But it's still worth checking out!

Where: Smith College, Ford Hall

What: Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

When: Saturday, March 3rd

It looks like there are only afternoon spots available, so if any students are interested I suggest registering ASAP.

Smith College is hosting an engineering and computer science event called Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. This will focus on "allowing middle-school-aged girls to get a fun introduction to engineering and computer science! For those of you who are not familiar with this event, it is held annually at Smith College and is completely student run. It consists of a number of activities that are focused on engineering and computer science that girls can participate in to get a feel for what these fields are like to encourage them to pursue STEM fields as they grow older and help close the gender gap and increase diversity in science!"

I saw this video on Facebook today and had to find out more. I recommend watching the whole video to see the water maze at the end.

It's from a site called Science Friday. They have some amazing videos, audio episodes, and lesson plans!! There a tab that says "Explore Everything". How great is that! That's even better than my motto of "Work Hard. Stay Curious."

Click the link for the search results for "genetics". Students have so many great questions about what make you you.
