This year's eighth grade ambassador to Project 351, Bob Provost, is currently running the spring service campaign. He is collecting clothing and shoe donations to benefit the non-profit organization Cradles to Crayons which is based in Boston. Please consider cleaning out your closets and bringing in any gently used items that are infant through adult medium sizes. This year there are several drop-off locations: GHS, Greenfield Savings Bank, Classic Kitchens, and Mowry & Schmidt, Inc.
Here is the article from The Recorder, and here is a great video from Project 351 about why community service is important.

The SS Jack Russell shipwrecked years ago and the rats that were on-board landed on four different islands. Over time, random mutation and natural selection allowed the rats to evolve into new species adapted to survive on the islands. Eighth graders were not too enthusiastic with our model organism, Rattus norvegicus, but they got creative with this assignment none the less.

Next Wednesday, 3/14/18, GHS is planning a Day of Dialogue within the building. We believe it is important to provide safe opportunities to share and actively listen to one another. Other schools in the district will also be working with students around the ideas of Kindness and Action.
When we returned to school after February break I had each of my classes "circled up". We hold circles in our classrooms to foster a sense of community and equality. These can also be an important part of our restorative justice practice. During this circle time I took the opportunity to let students know that I care about each and every single one of them. Even on those tough days we all have to get through, I want to be sure my students know that. I hope they do. I hope my students have a trusted adult in the building they can reach out to for help, even if it's not me.
