Last summer I completed two courses from Mindfulschools.org, and I now weave mindfulness practice into my lessons with students in the 8th Grade Academy. My favorite saying during our practice is "Be.Here.Now."
During my own weekly practice session with colleagues I was inspired to try a simple, yet effective, hands-on device to help students focus their attention. Last week we gently focused on each breath by extending and compressing a simple toy spring! Ask your student if they noticed a difference in their attention!

It was brought to my attention that the Calendar I've added to the website this year could be streamlined. One change I've made is to rename the tab as Homework Calendar.
In the future I will be posting only the DUE DATES for assignments. Previously I would post when the assignment was given and a popup window would provide due date information. For example, this Monday and Tuesday I assigned a form on Google Classroom. This form is due on Wednesday (period 1 & 3) and Thursday (period 2 & 6).
The homework calendar now only shows the DUE DATE for that assignment. I've also removed the weekly Do Now/Output assignment because that is classwork. I think these changes will make information easier for students and families to access.
I will try this format for a while and see how it works. In the future I may change the layout again if this proves to still not be as user friendly as possible. Stay tuned!
Se señaló a mi atención que el calendario que he añadido a la página web este año podría ser racionalizado. Un cambio que he hecho es cambiar el nombre de la pestaña como calendario de tareas. En el futuro estaré publicando solamente las FECHAS DE VENCIMIENTO para las asignaciones. Anteriormente me gustaría publicar cuando se dio la asignación y una ventana emergente proporcionaría información de fecha de vencimiento. Por ejemplo, este lunes y martes asigné un formulario en Google Classroom. Este formulario se entregará el miércoles (período 1 y 3) y el jueves (período 2 y 6). El calendario de tarea sólo muestra ahora la FECHA DE VENCIMIENTO para esa asignación. Creo que esto hará que la información de la asignación sea más fácil para los estudiantes y sus familias. Voy a probar este formato por un tiempo y ver cómo funciona. En el futuro puedo cambiar el diseño de nuevo si esto demuestra que todavía no ser tan fácil de usar como sea posible. ¡Manténganse al tanto!
