This is new for most eighth graders. It can feel overwhelming and scary. In science we will be spending time reviewing (hello Quizlet Live!), I will post a review slide show, and I will give students a paper study guide to fill out.
Start reviewing now, don't cram, pace yourself, and get enough sleep in the next few weeks!
The exam schedule will be as follows:
Tuesday - Period 2 and Period 4, part of Period 5
Wednesday - Period 1 and Period 3, part of Period 5
Thursday - Period 6 and Period 7, make up exams or wait in auditorium
All students need a note from home to be dismissed on Thursday if they do not have to makeup a midterm after the Period 7 exam.
Please be sure to call the school if a student will be absent. No call, no show, no midterm!

New Year's resolutions often come from a place of judgement and thinking that something about you needs to change- that you're not enough. Instead of starting the year with this idea I had students chose One Little Word.

We looked at a long list of words and students chose a few words that inspired them. Then they can pick One Little Word that will become their focus for their year. Something they can think deeply about and set intentions around. For example if your word was gratitude you might try to start or end your day thinking about a few things to you're grateful for.
What is your word for 2019? How will you incorporate it into your daily life? Why does it inspire you?

While at GMS last night for their book fair and craft fair I found some information I thought would be helpful for some local families.
"MIGHTY stands for Moving, Improving, and Gaining Health Together at the YMCA. It’s an intensive six-month group program that emphasizes physical activity, nutrition, and change of habits for the entire family. It includes:
Fitness evaluation
Individual fitness prescriptions
Group exercise sessions
Individual and group nutritional counseling
Strategies for maintaining lifelong health
The program, a partnership with Kohl's and the YMCA.... offers treatment for childhood obesity through exercise, nutrition education, free membership to the YMCA, and more."
They have expanded this program into Greenfield which means local students and families can sign up! A six month family membership to the YMCA is included with the program too!
